Hmm, that wasn't marathon pace

WARNING: Patently uninteresting workout post, but it has an RBR bad assery moment, so it must be chronicled.

Today's workout:

5 miles at 10:08 min/mile

Well, well, what have we here? That is NOT my marathon pace (or, really, even close to it) That is something that almost resembles speed work.

"Speedwork? 10+ min/mile?" You may ask.

Uh yeah, Mr/Ms. Judgey-pants. In my world (unlike the world inhabited by ridiculous people that can actually run at speeds of 17 miles per freaking hour. Whatever. I still look cuter in pink. ) that is pretty damn fast.

Did you know that hippos can top out at 20 mph?! They are also the number 1 vertebrate killer of people in Africa. Don't be dissin' the 'potamas!

I also did another 30 push ups. I figure I can keep this up if I only need to raise my arms to wash my hair twice a week. I will just wear a hat the other days.

And 30 walking lunges. Helps strengthen my kneesies. Gotta take care of one's 40 year old, fat girl knees if one wants to be a runner.

Good day, good day indeed!

Uh ... 'bout time someone started searching for a 12-step program for people who are a little too into the ol' water horses, don't you think? Isn't this the second time in like 3 posts that you've posted a pic of one? Yer all like, "Yeah, hippos are fast bastards! [*swoon*] 20 miles per hour! [*swoon*] Their turn-ons include: Romantic walks on the beach; raw vertebrate meat; boob sweat; the smooooove jazz of Kenny G; SteveQ in a pink Sports Bra ..."

Ain't no hip
Like a hippo's hip
Cos a hippo's hip don't stop!

Yeaaaaahhhhh, I think the ladies know whut Ah mean!

(And by "ladies", I mean that subset of them who are into bestiality. Which is still a far less disturbing image than that of SteveQ in a pink sports bra. Man up, SteveQ! Those sports bras come in blue too, you know!)

First!1!

First off, I'd kill for a 10 minute mile! My slow movin' WI glutes usually pull off a 12+ miler! Thank God I really don't give a shit since I still almost get run over by really fat WI drivers who see me out there doing only what they can dream about!
Second, I love your photos-crack my slow moving ass up every time.
Third, Glaven's comments are incredible!

Whenever I pull a 10ish minute mile out of my butt I want to do backflips.

Then I remember I can't do backflips so I slow back down to my 11+ minute miles.

Great job RBR!

I'm already terrified of hippos, so thank you for confirming their evilness for me.

Also, right now I feel like a 10 minute pace is speed work, too.

You are speedy! That would be speedy for me too! I am such a slow poke! I once dreamed a Hippo ate my brother. hee hee. They can be meanies and they look so serene in the zoo water tank.

Great job!

I am always so happy when I see any miles in the 10 range. I wish you were closer we could be pace buddies!

I sure hope that photo of the guy running from the hippo didn't turn out the way I'd expect.

There've been a number of people killed by polar bears in recent years - at zoos. Since they just lay (lie?) there until you cross the line where they know you can't escape, people try to get close-up pictures. They can run 40 mph. They can swm 20 mph. They weigh over 1000 lbs and they think you're food. But gosh, they're cute!

Just sprained my ankle, so you're currently faster than I am.

btw: You're right about me and pink. Orange is even worse on me, makes my skin look green. And I so wanted to wear that dress from the Golden Globes...

I will take your 10 min. pace. Good workout.

Which of the two Half's of the SF Marathon are the best to run? I noticed they give you a choice of the first half or last.

lol about washing your hair/pushups. i recommend the 100pushup 'plan'. i haven't mastered it (i usually fade away after week 3 and have to re-start) but it has definitely helped my arms get stronger. i just like it because it "tells" me what to do. otherwise i will do like 10 pushups and quit, call it a day. :)

congrats on your run! you are a step ahead of me 'cause i have been copping out with easy runs for months... god forbid i start breathing heavy or sweating or something.

I've heard that about hippos, it's ridiculous!
You can't avoid me forever, by the way, so when would you like to *do* Garin again? Mother's Day is our runniversary of our first face-to-face. ;)

I'd love to be able to maintain a 10min/mile over 5 miles...and that is totally speed work in my book. Congrats!

I saw that hippo photo and was going to say they kill more people in Africa than big cats! But you beat me to the punch.
